Weekly Photo Challenge – Palau Sunrise Sunset

This weeks Photo Challenge, Rise/Set, has us “explore the vibrant, hopeful colors of your favorite sunrise or sunset.”  I plan on showing you my most memorable sunrise AND sunset. In 2009, I was lucky enough to get to go to the island of Palau and stay with 2 friends who had been living there for the previous 7-8 months.

Every morning, my friends would walk to the community college and run laps at the track while I slept in. On the morning of May 5th, I decided to wake up early and go with them; I didn’t run, I just walked around the track with my camera and took pictures, mostly of the clouds forming in the sky as the sun was coming up. The sunrise photo below was nothing more than being in the right place at the right time, with my camera.

This sunset photo was taken a few days earlier than the sunrise photo above…it was taken on May 1st while eating dinner at Palau Pacific Resort. It was the perfect end to a wonderful day of snorkeling at Jellyfish Lake amidst thousands of jellyfish, and lunch on an unnamed island.

  1. Wonderful skies. The second one is intriguing in complexity of texture. <3

    1. I couldn’t get over the texture in the clouds…and they looked so close to the Earth too. It was an amazing site, to be sure. Thank you for your comment.

  2. Wow, those clouds in the second photo catch the light from so many angles! Beautiful!

    1. Thank you Aixa. To have seen it in person, made me feel very small in size.

  3. That sunset on May 1st is quiet something. All that could and all that light bouncing off it all giving off those colours. A lovely show to end of the day indeed. Nothing like going away and having a good time and experiencing a good sunrise and sunset too 🙂

    1. Thank you Mabel. It was an awesome sight and I’m so glad that I had a camera with me.

  4. Wow that first one — the clouds are amazing! the sunset below is gorgeous!

    1. Thank you, Mary. Clouds definitely make a sunrise/sunset…something we don’t get much of here in Southern California.

Each weekend, starting Friday, I will be giving away something for free; to start it might only be textures, but as I get more into (digital) mixed media, it might be digital stencils, digital brushes, or even an image that you can use. I hope that you enjoy creating with the freebies. Today’s freebie was created in Affinity Designer…

Day 7 of 365

There’s something about unfurled ferns that attracts me and I can’t help but want to take a picture. Maybe because it’s hard to believe that it transforms from hairy whorls into a beautiful pattern of green-ness.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Flowers

This week Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge is Flowers. That happens to be one of my favorite topics to photograph. I found a beautiful Asiatic Lily today at Walmart and this afternoon, I got my camera out to take some dreamy photos of my beauty. Using my camera’s multiple exposure feature, I captured the dreamy look I was after. I used Topaz Studio to convert to Black and White and add grain.
